Breaking away from tradition, this edition of The Match will be the first to include women players and will also take place at The Park Golf Course, a departure from its usual venue at the Wynn in Las Vegas. Both Thompson and Zhang aim to leave a mark in front of McIlroy and Homa, who are no strangers to such events.
McIlroy previously participated in The Match 7 alongside Tiger Woods, although they were defeated by Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth in December 2022. Homa also faced a similar outcome during the Netflix Cup last fall when he teamed up with Formula One driver Alex Albon, only to see Thomas emerge victorious once again.
Unlike past editions, The Match 9 will not feature teams. Instead, the four golfers will vie against each other across 12 holes of skins, all in the name of charity.
